The chair of foreign languages № 2 of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University holds a foreign languages week for students of non-language specialties dedicated to the Year of a labour man in Chuvashia.

On the 29th of February a regular meeting of the Scientific Council of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University was held. The meeting was headed by the rector A. Yu. Alexandrov.

The session began with a silence minute in memory of the passed away distinguished University professors L.G. Efremov and I. Ya.Tenushev.

The rector awarded several employees of the University with honorary diplomas of the Ministry of Education of Chuvashia and honorary diplomas of the Chuvash State University for their fruitful work.

By the main issue of the agenda “On outcomes of work undertaken in February and objectives for March 2016” the rector A. Yu. Alexandrov made a speech.  Among the tasks for the nearest future Andrei Yuryevich emphasized organization of spring schools at faculties for secondary schools pupils, adoption of the adaptation programme for freshmen at the University, extension of structure and staffing optimization at the University.

A report on outcomes of scientific and innovation work of the ChuvSU during 2015 and on the aims to further prospect was made by vice-rector for scientific work E.N. Kadyshev. In his report he set aims for further work and specific tasks for every lecturer. 

The Scientific Council adopted the decision to hold free mock exams in the form of unified state examinations in 9 disciplines, the decision of 4^th-year students’ participation in the Federal internet-examination for bachelor degree course graduates and other issues were discussed.  

Meeting of the Council of Rectors of higher education institutions of the Chuvash Republic

On the 2^nd of March in the Academic Council Hall of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University a meeting of the Council of Rectors of higher education institutionsofthe Chuvash Republic took place where the Minister of education and of youth policy of Chuvashia V.N. Ivanov took part. The meeting was headed by the chairman of the rectors’ Council, the rector of Chuvash State University A. Yu. Alexandrov.

On the first question of agenda “On the status and development of youth policy and students’ self-government at higher education institutions located in the territory of the Chuvash Republic” reports were made by the head of Department of youth policy of the Ministry of education and youth policy of the Chuvash Republic A.Yu. Guriev, President of ChuvSU Student Council I.N Tumakov. Scientific Council members recommended educational organizations of higher education functioning in the territory of the Chuvash Republic to continue their work on organization of patriotic nature activities, to enhance cooperation with organizations of was and labour veterans, to promote the work of search detachments and military-historical clubs, patriotic youth projects and programmes, patriotic clubs and other youth associations of patriotic orientation; to implement educational and other programmes and projects aimed at strengthening social, inter-ethnic and inter-faith accord among the youth; to support volunteer movement and a number of other important decisions. 

On introduction of all-Russia sports and physical training complex “Ready for labour and defence (GTO) and creation of GTO testing centres on the basis of educational institutions of higher education, on organization of the Universiade among students of educational institutions of higher education in 2016 spoke the first Deputy Minister of physical culture and sport of the Chuvash Republic A. N. Yakovlev.

Director of the Center for youth initiatives of the Ministry of Education of Chuvashia U.V. Alanova reported on development of student labour units headquarters on the basis of educational institutions of higher education.

On the 26^th of February the Head of Chuvashia Mikhail Ignatyev held a working meeting with the rector of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University, the Chairman of the Council of Rectors of higher educational institutions of the Chuvash Republic Andrey Alexandrov.

During the meeting questions of fundamental and applied research development for Chuvashia’s innovation and technological capacity building, cooperation of the given educational institution with real economy enterprises were discussed.

Andrey Alexandrov reported that in March 2016 I.N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University was planning to organize a round table on the theme “University and employer. Ways of graduates’ effective job placement” in the course of which questions of graduates’ job placement by their obtained specialty, requirements and wishes of employers for the quality of specialists’ preparation, adaptation of the University graduates at the employment market would be discussed.

The head of the region stated that currently the theme acquired special significance. “It is widely-known that our science, the system of students formation is at a worthy, serious level. The higher education institution closely collaborates with industrial enterprises, commercial companies and trains specialists who are strongly sought-for at the labor market. The electro-technical cluster is well-developed in our region. It is necessary to improve technologies in construction sphere as well. Education and science must comply with business demands. We need new ideas for development and modernization of economy”, - concluded Mikhail Ignatyev.

I.N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University was visited by a regional authorized representative of German Federal Republic Embassy in the city of Moscow Moriel Susan Dudek

On the 24the of February I.N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University was visited by a regional authorized representative of German Federal Republic Embassy in the city of Moscow Ms. Moriel Susan Dudek.

In the conference hall of building “G” a meeting of Ms. Dudek with the management, employees and academic staff and students of the Chuvash State University took place. The rector of higher education institution A. Yu. Alexandrov described scientific and teaching activity of the university’s staff.

Leaders of structural subdivisions of the university who spoke during the meeting offered directions for collaboration with higher education institutions and scientific centers of German Federal Republic.

Ms. Dudekthanked the management of the University for hearty welcome and expressed hope for further fruitful collaboration with the Chuvash State University. With great interest she became acquainted with the exhibits of the university’s history museum and the ones of the art museum named after A.A. Kokel.

At the end of 2015 a monography “Theory and reality:  image  of  a  man  in  the social sciences” prepared by an international team of authors was published at the Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic). The team included representatives of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University: the rector of the University A. Yu. Alexandrov, dean of foreign languages faculty M. V. Emelyanova, vice-dean for research of management and social technologies faculty A. N. Zakharova,   head of social and clinical psychology department E. L. Nikolayev.

Charity concert «Friendship Avenue, 38» of graduates of the Chuvash State University

On the 11^th of February in the Palace of culture of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University a charity concert «Friendship Avenue, 38» of graduates took place. Former students of ChuvSU as well as students willing to render help and support met there.

Before the concert the audience and guests could purchase different handmade products of not only masters of applied arts but of talented students of CSU as well. All proceeds from the charity concert and the fair were directed to pay for treatment of a 2-year student of informatics and computer science faculty, an active participant of student spring festivals Darya Adukova. The best doctors are fighting for Dasha’s life and health but so far the situation is very difficult. The doctors are doing everything they can to eliminate complications and give her a chance.

«I receive support and wishes to recover as soon as possible from everywhere! I am so grateful for your help which is very important for me!» Dasha wrote at her social networking page.

Students of the Chuvash State University met with a lecturer from Belgium. In fact, Jean-François Tierie arrived to Cheboksary to meet archimandrite Vasiliy Paskier, but this day future philologists and journalists gathered to listen to guest. The lecture in the Chuvash State University was visited by our correspondent Maria Nikiforova as well.

Jean-François Tierie came from Belgium to Russia 25 years ago. He says: being a student, he knew nothing about our country. “The Iron Curtain” thoroughly hid the world from the Soviet Union. Therefore in order to somehow get acquainted with the history of the USSR, the young man became a translator from the English into Russian. But Jean-François Tierie wasn’t a diligent student – instead of studying four years at the university, it did six. But soon the man obtained a permission to work in Russia.

– When I arrived here, I discovered orthodoxy for myself, and it greatly helped me in my spiritual life, – tells the leader of the publishing house “Spiritual library” Jean-François Tierie. – By religion I am a catholic, but it is Russia who opened me the entire depth of orthodox tradition.

Now the arsenal of already mastered languages includes Russian, English, French, Italian and Flemish.

– Such people of spirit always greatly inspire. I wish to know much, I want to travel as well, moreover not only in my country, but also abroad. To learn new culture, traditions of different peoples, – shares the first-year student of I. N. Ulyanov ChuvSU Anastasiya Porfirieva.

A Moscow director, who makes a documentary film about foreigners who came to Russia, got interested in the unusual fate of Jean-François. Aleksey Shamrayev arrived in Cheboksary for shooting one of episodes of the film “Russians by spirit”.

Shi Hongsheng: «Chuvash University is the leading and influential in the region»

Shi Hongsheng is thedirector of the Centre for Russia StudiesofAnhui State University (People's Republic ofChina), Editor-in-Chief of the journal «Russian culture study» of ASU, member of the Board of Association of universities translators in Anhui province, post-doctor of Heilongjiang State University, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor.

The official visit of thedirector of the Centre for Russia StudiesofAnhui State University Shi Hongsheng to I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University lasted a month.

- Mr. Shi, would you tell how Chuvashia met you?

- I liked people – they are so good, open and friendly. Although much time was occupied by working, I had time to see the sights of the town of Cheboksary: I visited the gulf during Epiphany holidays, walked by the city at night. I visited the museum «Bichurin and today’s world» located in Cheboksary region as well.

- What impressions are left by the Chuvash State University?

- I immediately noted for myself –students are very active and not less active lecturers work here.  It can be seen that the University is a leading and influential institution in the region: it has a great number of scientific areas; the University has many buildings located in different parts of the town. I would like to stress as well that it was particularly pleasant for me that ChuvSU seriously and businesslike considers its cooperation with China.

In addition, I noticed that the Chuvash State University contacts with schools more closely than, for example, Chinese universities. On the 30^th of January in the framework of the project «University Saturdays» I gave a lecture to schoolchildren. The event was very well organized: an announcement on the sites of the Education Department of the town of Cheboksary and the University was made in advance, a special auditorium was prepared and the lecture was filmed.

- The Chuvash State University and the Anhui University signed a cooperation agreement. Within the framework of this agreement several events took place: in the format of videoconference a round table «Russian – Chinese cooperation: regional experience and perspectives» took place, an International scientific-practical conference «Russia-China: struggle for independence during the Second World War», your business trip to the Chuvash State University. What other events are planned?

- Some days ago an agreement on cooperation between the Centre for China studies of ChuvSU and the Centre for Russia Studiesof ASU was signed. We shall prepare joint research by grants, organize cultural activities for students of our universities. We shall start with the topic «Exploring the great tea route». Tea route was a commercial connection between our two countries in ancient times; it passed through the province of Anhui and the Volga region. Thus, studying the two regions will help us to learn more about each other. Today between Russia and China there is a new format of cooperation «the Volga – the Yangtze». This cooperation concerns economy, education, culture and folk traditions.

Besides of that, in Chuvashia I learned about a very interesting person –Nikita Yakovlevich Bichurin. Frankly speaking, I haven’t even heard about him earlier. And he was, as the director of the museum «Bichurin and today’s world» told, an orientalist, an expert of the Chinese language, one of the founders of Russian sinology, the first Russian sinologist who gained European fame. I was very much interested in this person. I think this theme will also be relevant to our joint work. In the Internet I found out that last year in China a book about him and 2 – 3 articles were published. I believe that it is insufficient for such a big scholar. On returning home I plan to get closer acquainted with his biography, works and achievements. 

- You came to us to study Russian culture. In parallel you taught at intensive Chinese language courses for the public. Will these classes be continued?

- Indeed, it is possible to conduct online classes where I could give consultations on pronunciation.

As of today between our universities a mutually beneficial cooperation has developed: we need to study Russia and you need to study China. When teaching the Chinese language I study deeper the mentality of the Russian people, and share with lecturers of the Chuvash State University my experience in teaching foreign languages using comparison of Russian and Chinese. The Center for Russia Studiesof ASU and scientists of ChuvSU can do research in this area, prepare monographs and textbooks.

Laboratory of new educational technologies and e-learning was opened at I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University

On the 8^th of February, the day of Russian Science, in building «G» of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University anopening ceremony of a new laboratory of educational technologies and e-learning took place.

The Rector of the University A. Yu. Alexandrov, head of the Department of economic development and social issues coordination D. V. Sergeyev, head of the extended education Center E. A. Dmitrieva spoke to the public at the opening ceremony. They noted that the University had recently done much for technical equipment of classrooms; the laboratory allowed to organize distance learning, which was especially important for extended education students.

Later a video communication with participants of refresher courses which opened that day in building «J» of ChuvSU was held. The Rector A. Yu. Alexandrov talked on-line to deputy deans for pedagogical work and curators of academic groups, congratulated them with Russian Science Day, spoke on outcomes of the Roundtable «Interaction of high school science and regional economy» with participation of the head of the Chuvash Republic M. V. Ignatiev.

On the 9^th of February a working meeting of the Rector of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University A. Yu. Alexandrov with Professor of Helsinki University (Finland) E.Yu. Protasova took place during which the parties discussed issues of scientific cooperation in the field of philology, issues of academic exchanges and organization of an ethnological expedition of Finnish students to Chuvashia.

On the 9^th of February the mechanical engineering faculty of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University was visited by Deputy Minister of economic development of the Russian Federation O.V. Fomichev. The meeting was attended by Minister of economic development, trade and industry of the Chuvash Republic V.A. Avrelkin, Rector of the Chuvash State University A. Yu. Alexandrov, Pro-Rector for research E. N. Kadyshev, Dean of mechanical engineering faculty V. A. Gartfelder, Director of the Center for prototyping of innovative developments in the field of mechanical engineering of Chuvashia V. A. Elenkin, the head of the Center for youth innovative creativity of Chuvashia S. S. Sorokin, Associate Professor of mechanical engineering faculty V. S. Grigoriev. During the visit the Deputy Minister of economic development of the Russian Federation O.V. Fomichev was informed and shown the teaching and laboratory facilities of the faculty, he visited the Center of youth innovative creativity, the Center of prototyping of innovative developments in the field of mechanical engineering. At the meeting issues of effective equipment use, prospects for deepening interaction between the University and enterprises of real economy were discussed.

Awarding of certificates to graduates of the Chinese language courses took place on the 6^th of February at the meeting hall of building “G” of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University.  The ceremony was attended by the rector of ChuvSU A. Yu. Alexandrov and the director of the Centre for Russia Studies of Anhui State University (province of Anhui of the People's Republic of China) ShiHongsheng.

On the same day, a working meeting of the rector of Chuvash State University A. Yu. Alexandrov and the director of the Centre for Russia Studies of Anhui State University ShiHongsheng took place during which they discussed issues of further mutually advantageous cooperation between universities.

On the 28^th of January the head of the town of Cheboksary L. I. Cherkesov took part in academic council meeting of I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University.  The agenda included important questions concerning the outcomes of the first semester of the academic year. Plans for the future, both for the nearest future and long-term plans, were expected to be discussed.

Leonid Cherkesov congratulated lecturers with completion of the first half of the year; he marked great work being done by the teachers in training specialists for construction industry, medicine and engineering. The head of the town stressed that the year 2016 in Chuvashia was declared to be the year of a labour man, for many people it is the Chuvash State University that became the first step towards achieving high production and research results that gave Cheboksary an opportunity to become the capital of electrical cluster and tractor industry.

«In our town the Year of a labour man will pass under the brand «Cheboksary – the town of labour glory». Wonderful people, masters of their crafts work at our enterprises. Theydeserverespectandhonor. We shall pay more attention to involving young people into labour specialties. Festivals, games of the Club of the cheerful and sharp-witted will be organized, for working young people we have also planned a series of activities aimed at improving the image of a labour man.

It is planned to open high-tech industries in Cheboksary, Chuvashia's capital will become the main supplier of consumables for cardiac surgery, of surgical instruments, artificial joints for the Federal center of traumatology and endoprosthesis replacement, and in the long term we shall launch manufacturing of ultrasound devices – already today it is necessary to train specialists for these industries. That is why we put a great deal of trust at lecturers of the Chuvash State University».

A great contribution to the development of the capital of the Chuvashia was highly appreciated by deputies of the city council. L. I. Cherkesov awarded the Rector of Chuvash State University A. Yu. Alexandrov with a Certificate of appreciation and expressed the hope for further cooperation and active participation in economic and social life of the town as well as in assisting in upbringing of young people as worthy citizens of our country.

The head of the town awarded the Council of veterans of war, labour, armed forces and law enforcement bodies ofFSBEI HPE «I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University» with a diploma for the third place in the municipal contest: «How are you, veteran? ».

I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University was visited by a delegation from Sichuan province of the People's Republic of China

On the 27^th of January I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University was visited by a delegation from Sichuan province of the People's Republic of China which included the director of international cooperation subdivision of Department of Education SU Pyng, a counselor of European division of the Office for foreign and emigrational affairs YUAN Khunling, an interpreter of European division of the Office for foreign and emigrational affairs of People’s Government of Sichuan province LEE Sinchen.

It is not for the first time that representatives of Sichuan province visit I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University. The delegation of the province visited the University in March 2015, and in September, 2015 a meeting with representatives of Sichuan Agrarian University took place at I. N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University in the course of which an agreement of cooperation between these higher education institutions was signed. 

Representatives of the University and students in Chuvash national costumes met their guests with hospitality. An excursion to the museum of the University’s history was organized for them as well.

A meeting with senior executives, employees, academic teaching staff and students took place in the conference hall of building “G” of ChuvSU. The representative of arts faculty Aleksey Yegorov (violoncello and Chinese folk instrument erkhu) performed the composition “Eternal Love” from the film “Myth” which sounded at closing the Olympiad in Peking.

The Rector of ChuvSU A. Yu. Alexandrov told the guests about key directions of the University’s activity. In the course of the meeting the deans of ChuvSU faculties offered their projects for collaboration with Chinese institutions of higher education.  

The director of international cooperation subdivision of Department of Education SU Pyng, an adviser of European division of the Office for foreign and emigrational affairs YUAN Khunling told about organization of higher education in People's Republic of China, invited to visit Sichuan province for more detailed acquaintance with the potential of the province and consideration of further collaboration in the sphere of education.The parties discussed the prospects for the development of collaboration between the Chuvash State University and Sichuan province in educational and scientific and technical sphere.
