The Pilot Who Rescued Passengers "Took off" from ChuvSU

Saturday, 17.08.19

170819

"I have signed a decree on awarding the aircraft crew, which produced a hard non-standard touchdown at the airport at Zhukovsky," news networks cite Vladimir Putin’s words at a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council. The head of State explained that the aircraft commander, Damir Yusupov and his co-pilot, Georgy Murzin are awarded with the titles of Heroes of Russia, the rest of the crew — with Orders of Courage. The President also expressed the hope that there will be as less as possible such incidents. “I wish that nothing like this happened”, he said. As was previously reported, the crew managed to land the liner with broken engines in the middle of a cornfield. All 226 passengers and seven crew members survived, about 20 people were hospitalized; most of them after examination received outpatient treatment. The Russians thank the pilots in social networks for their professionalism and courage.

Meanwhile, the pilot who on the 15th of August made an emergency landing of A-321 aircraft belonging to the "Ural Airlines", Damir Yusupov, is related to our Republic – he graduated from the Law Faculty of I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University. He couldn’t enter a flying school immediately after finishing school because he didn’t pass the medical examination. So he got enrolled at the Law Faculty of the Chuvash State University, after that he worked in urban housing and mortgage fund in Syzran and on a voluntary basis he was an assistant in the local Tatar diaspora. But at the age of 32 years he still entered Buguruslan Civil Aviation Flying School, from which he graduated with honors.

As was confirmed at ChuvSU, Damir studied in Cheboksary from 1999 to 2005 at the correspondence department by “Jurisprudence” specialty. Elena Ivanova, current Dean of the faculty says: “By reminiscences of his teachers, Damir Yusupov was a good and diligent student who successfully studied, despite the workload at his main place of work. We are proud by the feat of our graduate and will always look forward to his meeting with our students and applicants! "

The project educational program "Great Challenges" for schoolchildren of the 8th-10th grades – finalists of the All-Russian competition of scientific and technological projects – finished in the education centre of the «Sirius» in Sochi. Within the framework of "Mastering the Arctic and the World Ocean" five research projects were implemented, including the prototype of underwater currents converter into electricity "Plunging Wing". The supervisors of schoolchildren working on this project were specialists of «Energoinnovacii» and teachers of the Chuvash State University. A plant layout was created, which can be experienced not only in the sea, but even in a pool. Schoolchildren assembled a prototype for the system of creating an artificial current.

The problem of developing the model of wing installation for converting underwater currents into electricity is elaborated by ChuvSU laboratory “Wind and hydro power plants” under the leadership of an Honored worker of science of the Russian Federation, Professor at the Department of applied mathematics, physics and information technologies, A.G. Terentyev. Alexey Grigoryevich in "Sirius" conducted a series of scientific advice for schoolchildren and delivered a lecture "Energy of marine currents and how to use it”.

The head of "Talent and success» Fund, Elena Shmeleva, thanked the Chuvash State University, General Director of LLC «OOO Energoinnovacii», A.A. Terentyev and the curator of the project, A. V. Universities Are Preparing For Digital Transformation

Tuesday, 30.07.19

ChuvSU photo: ChuvSU team is discussing how to build a new form of education and make it a knowledge-intensive sector of economy

The "Island" for ideas

For a regional University is not easy to compete with the best metropolitan universities. Fortunately, for the artificial intelligence, which selected participants of an educational intensive course "Island 10-22", there is no concept of a "provincial University".

Selection was made basing on a pretty impressive list of parameters, as a result the Chuvash State University ended up to be in "company" with 100 higher education institutions from 72 regions of the country, along with the National Research Nuclear University "MIFI", St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, well-known Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod Universities. Among other things it was taken into account how many students study in technical and IT fields, what how active the University is in innovation and if there is any income from research work.

This intensive course task in Skolkovo was to establish teams in Universities which can change students’ training so that their graduates were prepared to work in conditions of rapidly changing technologies. That is why universities’ teams solved managerial tasks, discussed digital transformation of universities, mastered the technologies of large data and immersed into the details of neuro-technologies.

They attended master-classes, performed laboratory works, not forgetting to give time to sporting activities, without which it would be difficult to withstand the loads. In addition, Skoltech artificial intelligence gave each team member a personal development path as well. Therefore, participants had to read additional literature, listen to lectures, according to their individual plans of development.

And, of course, there was a lot of communication, exchange of experience. Our scientists and teachers prepared to absorb the experience in other universities, but there was a surprise for them. For ChuvSU team it was a revelation that information about the developments of the University which were familiar and natural for students and teachers, proved to be eagerly sought for employees of other universities. Thus, interaction with industrial enterprises of the Republic, especially in the engineering cluster, caused genuine interest. And the fact that our university laboratories are equipped with working in industrial equipment, due to which yesterday's students, coming to the enterprises, get included in the workflow — caused admiration and professional envy.

The initiators and organizers of the "Island" were the Ministry of science and higher education, STI Platform, Skolkovo Foundation, the Russian venture company, the Agency for strategic initiatives, the autonomous nonprofit organization "Digital Economy", the National University of technological initiative 2035.

The head of discrete mathematics and informatics department, Daria Troeshestova, was pleasantly surprised that ChuvSU project “Minor Physmath”, which she supervises, has proven to be unique for the country. The words of Academician Valery Kozlov that the road to the Nobel Prize begins from school, were put into practice by our University. Children are taught physics and mathematics beginning with the first class. And that is why graduates of the “Minor Physmath” fairly easy get enrolled not only in the ChuvSU, but in the capital's universities as well.

It would seem that in this situation, you can continue to work quietly, but Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Igor Poverinov, came back from the "Island" in the full conviction that university teaching should be changed. Technologies develop so rapidly that the slightest delay in changes in education will drive the University back. He already has a whole program of things to be done this year. And the main thing it is necessary to move away from the scheme "teacher-student". Now partnership is required, a teacher and student – colleagues. Only one already has some experience, and second only accumulates it.

At the end of this intensive, each team had to develop and protect its project. ChuvSU team chose the design and presentation of digital development programme of the University "The University is a driver to digital energy». It was introduced by its Rector, Andrey Aleksandrov. The result is a positive reviews both from the jury and from the participants. A plus was the consent of several federal universities to engage in joint development of technological and educational products.

In addition, ChuvSU concluded 41 strategic partnership agreements with universities of the country, an agreement on joining the University into the Consortium on the developing the Center of national technological initiatives in the field "Components of Robotics and Mechatronics» with Skoltech and Innopolis University.
