I.N. Ulianov ChuvSU and N.E. Bauman MSTU: Integration Becomes Deeper

On the 31^st of January a working meeting between ChuvSU Rector, A. Yu. Aleksandrov and scientists from Moscow State Technical University named after N. E. Bauman was held. MSTU scientists were represented by the head of wheeled machines department G.O. Kotiev and the head of multi-purpose tracked vehicles and mobile robots department V.A. Gorelov. The meeting was also attended by the Dean of engineering faculty V.A. Gartfelder. The participants discussed issues of joint training the staff for machinery industry, scientific and technical cooperation between our universities and interaction with industrial partners.

ChuvSU and Chuvashiakurort: New Facets of Cooperation

On the 31^st of January the Rector of the Chuvash State University, A. Yu. Aleksandrov, and CEO – Chief medical officer of JSC "Sanatorium “Chuvashiakurort” S.R. Turnikova signed a cooperation agreement.

The framework of the agreement foresees on-the-job training for medical students and students of management and social technologies faculty on the basis of the balneary as well as advanced training for health practitioners and developing methodologies of Eastern traditional medicine.

Talking to the Rector, Svetlana Romualdovna noted that logistical and medical base of the sanatorium was radically updated which created all conditions for implementing the terms and conditions of this agreement.

General Meeting of Members of the Association "Innovative Territorial Electrotechnical Cluster of the Chuvash Republic"

On the 29^th of January the laboratory of general electric drive and electric machines at energy and electrical engineering faculty (building “B”) of I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University hosted a general meeting of members of the Association "Innovative Territorial Electrotechnical Cluster of the Chuvash Republic”. At the meeting, statements were made by I. N. Ulianov ChuvSU Rector, A. Alexandrov, Deputy Minister of economic development, trade and industry of the Chuvash Republic S.V. Grigoriev, managers of enterprises-partners of the University. The participants discussed issues of training the staff for the electrotechnical cluster enterprises and further development of mutually advantageous cooperation in the field of implementing joint research projects.

Managers of enterprises-partners had a tour of the renovated building “B”, which is equipped with modern facilities for teaching and research laboratories.

Dialogue with the Rector

Within the framework of the project "Dialogue with the Rector” the head of the University A. Yu. Aleksandrov, met with students of our University, upholding the honour of Alma Mater at the sports arena.

The event was attended by the head of the Sports Club O. Yu. Simonova, students of the medical faculty Kristina Ivanova (PFD medalist in racewalking), Andrey Kirillov (champion and prize-holder of Chuvashia championships in athletics); students of energy and electrical engineering faculty Alexander Krasnov (champion and prize-holder of Chuvashia championships in athletics), Stas Kuritsyn (winner and prize- holder of Chuvashia championships in athletics); students of management and social technologies faculty Svetlana Sokolova (Russia Cup Prize winner in triathlon), Ksenia Makhneva (silver medalist of Russian Championship in track and field athletics).

The participants had a constructive dialogue on developing physical culture and sports at the University. Students got firsthand answers to all their questions.

The Tourist Club named after P. I. Stepanov of the Chuvash State University took the first place in the Championship of the Russian Student Sports Union in sports tourism. Thanks to the active work of the Tourist Club, the Chuvash State University took a high place in the final protocol. In the Transvolga region, Central and Western Caucasus, Kirov oblast, Karelia our students accomplished seven category hikes in three types of tourism: walking, mountain and water tourism. They spent 61 days and covered 872 km during their trips.

Upgrading Teaching and Research Base

At the faculty of applied mathematics, physics and information technology the Rector, A. Yu. Aleksandrov inspected the progress of repair works in educational and research laboratories and their provision with equipment and furniture. Andrei Yuryevich visited classrooms, laboratories of retro-physics and noted their importance in organization of educational and research process and for career guidance for pupils.

During the meeting with teachers and extramural students they discussed issues of implementing the priority project of the Russian Education and Science Ministry "Affordable supplementary education for children" (University is the winner of the All-Russian contest of grants for provision of subsidies) and the Republican project "Science to school", which was initiated in 2018 by I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University.

Improving Skills at the Educational Centre "Sirius" (Sochi)

From the 13^th to the 19^th of January the educational center "Sirius" (Sochi) hosted a refresher course "Interaction of primary and supplementary mathematics education as a condition for developing a gifted profile of schoolchildren". Basing on the results of competitive selection, 40 participants from different regions of Russia were enrolled to the course. The Chuvash State University was represented by Assistant Professor of higher mathematics and theoretical mechanics department named after S.F. Saykin, I. I. Ilyina.

This training programme was aimed at teachers of supplementary education, heads of mathematical circles, including university teachers carrying out profile training of gifted children to participate in mathematical academic Olympiads and other intellectual competitions. I. I. Ilyina has been engaged in this activity for several years; she works with schoolchildren in the circle "Young Mathematician" and teaches at Minor physico-mathematical school. In the course of training at the "Sirius" Centre Irina Igorevna familiarized herself with the experience and methods of working of leading specialists in instructing pupils as part of supplementary mathematics education system, peculiarities of organizing the work with gifted children.

The University Hosts the Regional Stage of the All-Russian Olympiad For Schoolchildren on History

On the 17^th – 18^th of January 17-18 I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University hosted the regional stage of the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren on history. 98 pupils of the 9^th -11^th classes from more than 60 schools of Chuvashia came to participate in it. During the opening ceremony the participants were welcomed by the Rector, A. Yu. Aleksandrov. Andrey Yurievich noted that awardees and winners would receive additional points to the results of the Unified State Examination and a scholarship of 10 000 rubles after being enrolled at I.N. Ulianov ChuvSU. Statements were also made by the Director of the Center for working with the gifted youth D.A. Troeshestova, the Dean of historical-geographical faculty O.N. Shirokov, the chairman of the jury D.A. Yaltaev.

Victory in the All-Russian contest

The Rector of I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University, A. Yu. Aleksandrov received a letter from the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Federal Assembly G. N. Karelova:

"Beginning with 2016 the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Federal Assembly, together with the Russian Association to improve the population’s health and life quality “Healthy towns, regions and settlements” and N. E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University (National Research University) has been conducting nationwide competitions among educational institutions of higher education "A Healthy University” and among student works in the sphere of promoting healthy lifestyles “Be healthy".

These contests are aimed at enabling secure educational environment, forming motivation for healthy living and preventing drug addiction among the youth. The events proved their relevance in Russian regions; their geography covers the entire country.

In 2018 86 institutions of higher education took part in the contest, 120 research papers and projects were presented. 7 universitiesand 14 studentscientificandpracticalworksbecamewinners.

Winter School At Historical-Geographical Faculty

From the 3^rd to the 6^th of January ChuvSU historical-geographical faculty hosted its winter school. Schoolchildren of the 9^th -11^th classes from Cheboksarsky, Batyrevsky, Yalchiksky, Krasnoarmeysky regions of the Chuvash Republic studied the basics of social studies. The course instructors were experts in holding the Unified State Examination T. N. Ivanova, M. N. Krasnova.

The next course will be held during spring holidays. Students will study in detail the exam section "Law". As practice shows, those who attend such classes, pass the Unified State Examination with high scores, study for free tuition and easily adapt to University environment.

Winter School Of Minor Physico-Mathematical Department

From the 8^th to the 12^th of January I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University held the winter school of minor physico-mathematical department. The school was attended by 35 schoolchildren who passed training under the programs "Academic Olympiad mathematics. The English language" and "Entertaining Physics". Those were very interesting lessons; they were held in an unusual form – in the form of team games and experiments.

Schoolchildren studied techniques for solving logical problems, played mathematical football and mathematical carousel; they were also engaged in design of complex spatial figures. High school schoolchildren were explained the tasks of high complexity. In the English language lessons schoolchildren studied the course Extra English (additional to the basic English course), the basic phenomena of English grammar, extended their vocabulary and improved their conversational skills. The program in physics was devoted to experimental physics research. Students of the 7-9 grades learned about the theory of errors, the techniques for calculating measurement errors, solved experimental tasks to find the volume of a paper clip, the mass of a blob of paint, the density of rice, relations of masses with the help of a pencil and a paper clip.

Next holiday school of minor physico-mathematical department will be held during spring holidays from the 25^th to the 29^th of March.

I.N. Ulianov Chuvash State University Hold a Creative Meeting Dedicated to the Russian Press Day

On the 11^th of January a creative meeting dedicated to the Russian Press Day was held at the Journalism Department of I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University. Young journalists-schoolchildren and their mentors-educators, students and lecturers of the training program "Journalism" were warmly congratulated with the upcoming holiday by the University Rector A. Yu. Aleksandrov, the Chairman of Chuvash Journalists’ Union V.P. Komissarov, the head of Journalism Department A.P. Danilov.

In his speech the Rector A. Yu. Alexandrov spoke in detail on issues of modern journalism, held a master class for future journalists. Andrey Yuryevich awarded schoolchildren and students-winners of the Festival "Human being. Citizen. Scientist,” with diplomas and handed certificates to graduates of the winter school "Literary Debut".

The Chairman of Chuvash Journalists’ Union V.P. Komissarov described the activities of the creative association, thanked the students and lecturers for their active work in the media.

A small press conference of the participant of the international contest "Miss Universe", the winner of the contest "Miss Russia 2018", a second-year student of ChuvSU Journalism Department Julia Polyachikhina was very interesting for attendees, she spoke on the results of her trip to Thailand, about performing in federal television and radio channels, in print periodicals in Russia and social networks. By the way, the outcomes of Julia’s educational practice for the first course were considered to be one of the best; she was awarded with the Honorary Diploma of the Chuvash Journalists’ Union.

Internship at Anhui University

From the 1^st of September 2018 an associate professor of the Department of Russian as a foreign language at Russian and Chuvash philology and journalism faculty Alena Yurievna Nikitina has been passing internship at Anhui University (Anhui Province, the city of Hefei, People's Republic of China).

A. Nikitina wrote in the letter about her work, experiences and life in China.

“It's hard to believe, but already 4 months have passed since I came to China. I give classes on language development and speech practice at the Faculty of the Russian language at the Institute of foreign languages at Anhui University. From the 1^st of September I have been preparing students for the All-China contest in the Russian language (it is considered to be a very prestigious competition and gives the right to get a scholarship to study at a Russian University for free). I would like to note that students surprise with their diligence, curiosity and a high level of knowledge of the Russian language. The proof of this is that a 4^th year student took the 2nd place at the National competition in the Russian language which was held in Shanghai.

My work includes helping students in organizing and holding the "Corner of the Russian language". So, the last event of this year was dedicated to New Year’s celebration in Russia: students sang the song "Yolotschka", danced "Lavata" and "Boogie Woogie", showed their creative performances (tales, songs and dances), participated in fun contests as well as got sweet gifts. They were congratulates with New Year by Father Frost and the Snow Maiden.

I also had a chance to participate as a foreign expert in the Conference on developing the concept of Hefei development. Thanks to this event, I got a closer look at the history of Anhui Province, the traditional Chinese medicine, activities of world trade companies as well as talked with other foreign teachers working in different universities in the city”.

Outcomes of the Volunteer Year in Cheboksary: Achievements and Plans for the Future

On the 30^th of December volunteers and city volunteer teams were invited by the head of Cheboksary administration Alexey Ladykov to the Russian Drama Theatre to summarize the outcomes of the Volunteer Year.

In 2018, volunteers helped to organize and to conduct more than 1570 urban events of municipal, republican, nationwide and international levels. For example, during 2018 FIFA World Cup a cooperation agreement was signed between the city administration and the city-organizer Saransk, allowing young people to work at the event of the world scale. More than 400 volunteers were involved in celebrating the Victory Day, 300 people assisted in conducting the City Day, it is the volunteers who organized awareness-raising within the framework of preferential voting for choosing public spaces and transport reform and other significant events.

There are 347 volunteer teams in Cheboksary. The greatest in number among them are the Volunteer Center of Cheboksary, uniting around 3000 people, "Victory Volunteers”, the Volunteer Center of I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University, "Corporation of Good Deeds” of I. Ya. Yakovlev Chuvash Pedagogical University.

During the event the best volunteers, volunteer teams were awarded by the Deputy Mayor Nikolay Vladimirov, the head of Information Department, Public Relations and Youth Policy at administration of Cheboksary Oksana Efremova, the head of Youth and Community Development Department, Stanislav Trofimov and the head of the public organization "Volunteer Center of Cheboksary» Anastasia Tarasova.

In 2019 the City Volunteer Center will implement an extensive volunteer program as part of celebrating the 550^th anniversary of Cheboksary in several spheres: cultural-mass, sports, environmental, public safety.

The Well-Deserved Received Awards

56 teams – 336 schoolchildren of 5^th -10^th grades from schools of the Chuvash Republic became participants of the XXIII tournament of young mathematicians of Chuvashia, organized by I. N. Ulianov Chuvash State University. During four days they competed in various categories: a team academic Olympiad, a mathematical biathlon, mathematical battles, a mathematical carousel, a mathematical football and in a personal academic Olympics. Schoolchildren were explained the most difficult problems by university lecturers.

On the 5th of January honoring the winners of the tournament for young mathematicians was held at ChuvSU Palace of Culture. Cups, diplomas and prizes for successes in the team competition and gains in individual championship were handed by ChuvSU Rector, the Chairman of the Chuvash Republic Rectors’ Council A. Aleksandrov, the Dean of applied mathematics, physics and information technologies faculty A.Y. Ivanitskiy, the head of ChuvSU Center for work with gifted youth D.A Troeshestova. They congratulated schoolchildren with successful performance in the tournament, reminded that they had spend their winter vacation for their benefit, invited schoolchildren to participate in other educational projects of the University, in particular, in winter schools. Teachers-mentors were not left without awards; they received letters of appreciation from the University.
